Competitive Landscape
Amazon Responds to Temu’S Surge by Launching Content-Driven Platform
Amazon.com Inc remains the leading player in retail e-commerce in France, holding a 17% value share in 2025, followed by Galec - Centre Distributeur Edouard Leclerc on 7%.
Temu Gains Ground with Aggressive Pricing and Data-Driven Marketing
Competitive dynamics in 2025 were heavily influenced by the aggressive expansion of pure players such as Temu and Shein, with their value propositions centred on ultra-competitive pricing, targeted data-driven marketing and high-efficiency logistics. Temu was the fastest-growing player, benefiting from low prices, intensive use of customer data for personalisation, viral mobile marketing strategies and the exploitation of favourable customs rules for small imported packages.
Shein and L’Oréal Redefine Shopper Experience through Omnichannel and Ai
Retail e-commerce in 2025 was defined by a rapid evolution towards omnichannel retailing and next-generation AI-powered storefronts, both of which are driving significant innovation and reshaping shopper engagement. The move towards omnichannel was exemplified by Shein, which, after facing controversy as a pure online player, launched its first permanent retail presence at BHV Marais in Paris in November 2025, followed by pop-up stores at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann and in other French cities.
