The state reimbursement system has been strongly criticised as it overlooks many conditions requiring adult incontinence while it is also generally deemed as insufficient. It is estimated that over 150,000 patients require adult incontinence, while only approximately one in every 10 are eligible for support.

High barriers and low competition

A key factor in Rx/reimbursement adult incontinence is eligibility for state support, which requires each eligible product to be approved and included on a list of medical devices. This requires significant resources on behalf of the manufacturer or distributor and places a significant barrier to entry for newcomers, with the market still being relatively small.
