In terms of experiential luxury in Poland, it only comprises of luxury hotels, with only negligible value sales of luxury foodservice. While experiential luxury had been growing at a steady pace during the review period, though less so in the later years, absolute value sales were halved in 2020 due to COVID-19.
International luxury hotels are the main providers of experiential luxury in Poland. Orbis leads, accounting for about a third of value sales, with Starwood Hotel & Resorts following closely behind.
Luxury foodservice remains negligible in Poland and what luxury foodservice there is Tok-tok mainly provided through luxury hotels. When staying in luxury hotels, customers often want to experience all of the attractions and services on offer, particularly when they are paying a premium price.
While experiential luxury took a hit in 2020 due to COVID-19, which restricted people’s movement and practically put a halt to foreign visitors, it is hoped that once infections rates start to fall and global travel resumes, as well as local people also accessing experiential luxury again, that there will be positive value growth. Absolute value growth is expected to be highest in 2021, in comparison with the negative growth of 2020, and later in the forecast period growth will continue to be healthy, but not as high as in the first few years of the forecast period.
Poland is becoming a popular tourist destination and once global travel resumes, it is expected that tourist numbers will continue to rise. The number of tourists is not only growing from neighbouring countries, but also from further afield, including Asian countries such as China and South Korea.
While tourism took a hit in 2020, due to COVID-19, it is predicted that once tourism starts up again, that many tourists will be looking for health and wellness type experiences. Already, there are luxury facilities being developed in tourist resorts outside of the large cities that cater to the health and wellness clientele and it is expected that demand will continue to grow for such services over the forecast period.
