They are most likely to be careful in the winter of 2022-2023 – while inflation was already high by mid-2022, purchasing power will take a more severe hit in the colder months, when people heating their homes with electricity will in many cases face bills several times higher than they were used to.
The blurring of the boundaries between offline and online is likely to continue, and all the key players in the offline channel are expected to continue to invest in e-commerce. The long-term prospects for appliances and electronics e-commerce are good, although like offline sales, the early forecast period is likely to suffer from the economic situation.
Second-hand products and avoiding waste were trends in Finland even before the pandemic, as people wanted to avoid food waste and unnecessary packaging, for example. During the worst of the pandemic, these issues were somewhat side-lined by pandemic concerns, but at the same time, second-hand and vintage products became trendier than before, especially in apparel, in which buying second-hand/vintage can be fashionable, rather than carrying a stigma and seen as only suitable for consumers on low incomes.
