Laboratory-grown diamonds are not popular in Thailand, according to local jewellery companies. The main reason is that local consumers still prefer natural diamonds over lab-grown ones due to their rarity and potential for gaining value over time.
As the outlook for the category improves, jewellery companies are likely to focus more on limited collections, including ones designed and promoted in collaboration with other brands. Importantly, as in other areas of fmcg, consumers view limited collections as exclusive or rare.
The digitalisation process remained constant in retailing during 2022, with jewellery in Thailand benefiting from the strong development and growth of e-commerce. Due to the pandemic, many retail outlets categorised as non-essential, such as jewellery and watch specialists, were temporarily closed in 2020 and 2021.
