Positive housing market continues to drive volume sales of large cooking appliances

Despite the fact that the housing market in the Netherlands grew at a lower rate in 2018 than in 2017, this did not deter consumers from making large kitchen renovations. Retail volume sales continued to grow in large cooking appliances driven mainly by built-in appliances.

Built-in hobs benefits from new climate change agreement

Under the Dutch climate agreement (Klimaat Akkord) the Dutch Government wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 49% by 2030. One of the measures to help achieve this is to make houses gas free each year and new houses must be built without gas.

Consumers interested in aesthetic and high-performance appliances

With open kitchen spaces now being popular in the Netherlands, aesthetic appliances are important for consumers as the kitchen space is an extension of the living room. Although being niche, appliances such as range cookers witnessed strong growth in 2018, being the fastest growing in large cooking appliances.
