While sites/outlets and number of rooms in hotels overall have been rising consistently since the beginning of the review period, number of room nights is set to see a full recovery over 2023-2024. In terms of sites/outlets, budget, mid-market, upscale and luxury hotels will all continue to rise throughout the forecast period, with luxury hotels posting the fastest growth within hotels overall.
The retail value share of online bookings in lodging has been seeing steadily consistent rises throughout the review period, including during COVID-19 and into 2022, in both online via direct and online via intermediaries. This remains a hindrance to offline bookings, which has, conversely, been losing value share in a persistent decline since the beginning of the review period.

Lodging (Destination) covers the main types of lodging used by inbound and domestic tourists, providing a destination point of view (also known as point of supply). Lodging value is measured in terms of the price paid for lodging by the consumer and businesses based on total room sales. It does not include food and drinks or any other form of revenue that is not directly related to lodging, such as events and conferences and guest services, such as gym, spa, shop, room service, restaurant and café. Lodging volume is measured in terms of number of outlets and rooms at year end, and room nights as total of the full year.See All of Our Definitions
