Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, as yet officially named, is slowly developing into a major urban area on the outskirts of the Greater Cairo Metropolitan area. The large-scale masterplan for the new city was launched by the government in 2015 and since then it’s development has comprise one of the largest infrastructure megaprojects in Africa, indeed anywhere in the world.
As renowned international players such as IHG Hotels & Resorts continue to expand operations in Egypt, it is likely that business-oriented hotels will increasingly come to the four, a marked change from the traditional focus in Egypt of catering lodging facilities to the needs of leisure tourists. IHG Hotels & Resorts is one of the world’s leading hotel companies and it recently opened its first hotel in Egypt: the Crowne Plaza West Cairo Arkan.

Lodging (Destination)
Lodging (Destination) covers the main types of lodging used by inbound and domestic tourists, providing a destination point of view (also known as point of supply). Lodging value is measured in terms of the price paid for lodging by the consumer and businesses based on total room sales. It does not include food and drinks or any other form of revenue that is not directly related to lodging, such as events and conferences and guest services, such as gym, spa, shop, room service, restaurant and café. Lodging volume is measured in terms of number of outlets and rooms at year end, and room nights as total of the full year.
