Volume growth of split air conditioners plunges in 2018

The severe drop in volume growth of split air conditioners was very much attributable to the flat performance of the real estate market in China in 2018, mainly because of cooling measures introduced by the central government in 2017. In addition, the two consecutive years of extremely hot summers in 2016 and 2017 had very much drained demand for air conditioners in China, leading to a weakened performance by split air conditioners not helped by sluggish replacement demand.

Upgraded air treatment products meet consumers’ needs in terms of cleaner and healthier indoor air, represented by self-cleaning split air conditioners from Haier and integrated air treatment solutions from Midea. The self-cleaning technology in Haier’s split air conditioners is able to supply purified air, in addition to its cooling or warming function.

Brand-new air conditioners also debut

Brand-new air conditioners also made their debut at AWE 2018, such as the AUX air conditioner that is able to be cleaned by consumers themselves, targeting those born in the 1980s and afterwards. Cleaning air conditioners is usually considered quite a professional job, unable to be done without the help of a mechanic; however, this new product with detachable design could be disassembled by the average consumer in 15 seconds with only six steps and then the dismantled parts could be cleaned thoroughly.

Midea Group continued to lead air treatment products in 2018, benefiting from its complete product lines of air conditioners, cooling products, air purifiers, humidifiers and dehumidifiers. In terms of distribution, Midea penetrates even into lower-tier cities, while its central air conditioning systems also occupy premium furnished housing projects.

Specialised in and focused on air conditioners, Zhuhai Gree Electronics Co continued to lead this category in 2018. The company has devoted itself to strengthening its distributing channels by forming a strategic partnership with the leading online platform, Tmall.

The Casarte Dual air conditioner featuring the Grid-eye smart sensor system

The Casarte Dual series premium air conditioner is armed with a smart sensor system, Grid-eye, which can detect human body temperature when consumers are within five metres of the sensor. Through a whole-body scanning, the smart sensor is able to detect a person’s head temperature, distance, location and environment temperature.
