Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, gardening saw healthy growth in current value sales due mainly to the rising interest in living in green surroundings among urban dwellers, including those who live in apartments. In response to the pandemic in 2020, gardening will perform remarkably as sales grow rapidly overall.
In 2020, home improvement and gardening stores have remained the key retail distribution channel for gardening products in Poland. Indeed, the channel accounts for the vast majority of value sales, however, will witness declining shares in 2020.
In 2020, Husqvarna Poland will remain in the leading position in gardening. The company’s leading position in the fragmented product can be attributed mainly to its leadership in lawn mowers as well as its leadership in watering, where it offers the full range of products, including comprehensive garden irrigation systems.
At the beginning of the forecast period, gardening will see a drastic slowdown of current value growth, with some product areas even witnessing declining sales. The main reason for this is because the growth witnessed in 2020 was artificially boosted, meaning the beginning of the forecast period will be a time of stabilisation as the COVID-19 pandemic comes to an end.
The forecast period is expected to see further growth in sales of gardening products via e-commerce albeit at a slower rate than that seen in 2020. As restrictions continue easing, some consumers will return to store-based retailers.
Robotic lawn mowers will remain by far the most dynamic product area in gardening during over the forecast period. Although sales in the product area will continue to rise from a relatively low base, the novelty of these products and the genuine added value that they are perceived to offer will ensure rapid expansion of the consumer base for robotic lawn mowers.
