RTD coffee is expected to see off-trade volume sales increase steadily throughout the forecast period. While the category’s appeal will remain largely restricted to younger and more affluent Egyptians in big cities, demand among this demographic looks set to remain reasonably robust as busier lifestyles continue to strengthen appreciation for the convenience the RTD format provides as compared to hot coffee.
Given the category’s small size and the low level of demand, RTD coffee is unlikely to witness the entry of local producers over the forecast period, nor is it expected leading multinationals will start manufacturing their brands in Egypt. For the same reasons, investment in new product development and marketing activities looks set to remain limited.
Starbucks is expected to make further volume share gains in RTD coffee over the forecast period. Distribution and consumer awareness of the brand should continue to improve in line with the expansion of the Starbucks specialist coffee shops chain, which is becoming increasingly popular among higher-income Egyptians.
