Soft Drinks Packaging in
Brazil

Country Report

Executive Summary

Oct 2019
PROSPECTS
Muted soft drinks sales growth continues to suppress growth in soft drinks packaging

With economic growth starting to pick up again in 2018, many Brazilians relaxed their previously very restrained budgets, with spending on discretionary items rising slightly over the course of the year. This led to soft drinks volume sales returning to positive growth after static volume growth in 2017 followed several years of sales declines.

Returnable bottles likely to remain at the forefront of sustainable packaging trend

Although price remains the primary consideration for the majority of Brazilians when purchasing soft drinks, other concerns such as environmental sustainability are beginning to influence the decisions of consumers as well. This is especially the case when it comes to packaging.

Greater diversity in pack sizes likely to be seen as companies seek to boost sales

Despite the ongoing recovery of the national economy, many households are still concerned about their financial situations and rational purchasing decisions still prevail. However, this does not necessarily mean that consumers automatically reach for the absolute lowest-priced product or brand.
