PET bottle packaging posted the most significant volume growth in 2018, as it benefited most from the healthy living trend. Increasingly health-conscious consumers are switching from various sweetened beverages, including carbonates, RTD tea and sports drinks, towards bottled water.
During the FIFA World Cup, which took place in mid-2018, Coca-Cola Singapore released limited edition metal beverage can packaging designs to tap into the football fever. Football is the most popular sport in Singapore, and the World Cup enjoyed a wide following, with matches screened live at foodservice venues like restaurants, bars and coffee shops, and at public venues, like community centres.
The usage of health-related package labelling continued to increase in 2018, as brands pursued the dual purpose of appealing to health-conscious consumers and conforming to government regulations. RTD tea has seen brands like Pokka and Authentic Tea House prominently display labels such as “reduced sugar”, “no sugar” and “no calories” to inform health conscious consumers of their reduced sugar content.
