The usage of face masks (included within other apparel accessories) dropped drastically in 2022, due to the stable COVID-19 situation in the country. However, since there are rising cases in China, there has been alarm about the potential spread of a new variant of the virus in India.
The shift to working from home due to the COVID-19 crisis had a marked negative impact on demand for ties, a category that was already stagnating due to the casualisation of work environments prior to the pandemic. This category therefore saw the strongest decline within apparel accessories in 2020, followed by the slowest rebound in 2021.
For belts and ties, growth is expected to be limited by the aforementioned growing preference for a less formal appearance and dress codes. However, like luxury sunglasses and spectacle frames, luxury brands will continue to use such accessories as a point of entry to win over millennials via collaborations with celebrities and streetwear brands.
