In addition, during the pandemic non-sheer hosiery was less negatively impacted than sheer hosiery, seeing only a single-digit current value decline and therefore accounting for a higher share of sales of hosiery.
Like all other apparel and footwear categories, e-commerce saw a rising share of sales due to store-based closures in 2020, and some consumers continued to use this distribution channel to purchase hosiery even as outlets reopened, due to its safety and convenience. However, e-commerce has not performed as well in hosiery as in other apparel and footwear categories.
Hosiery is expected to see solid current value growth throughout the forecast period. Sheer hosiery is set to see the best performance, although this is mainly due to the significant decline seen in 2020, so it has more ground to make up.
