Retail volume sales of home video will continue to expand during 2021, with the rate of growth set to accelerate steadily over the course of the forecast period. There will also be a sharp acceleration in the rate of growth in retail constant value sales of home video, as consumers trade up to more expensive televisions – OLED TVs and smart LCD TVs with internet connectivity and voice commands.
OLED TVs is expected to see by far the best volume increase in home video during the forecast period. In the past, many consumers did not clearly understand the benefits of this technology vis-à-vis LCD TVs, while most people were not able to afford them, and they had little presence in retailers.
Samsung is hoping that innovation can help to better insulate it from price competition during the forecast period. It is pinning much of its hopes in this regard on what it has dubbed QLED technology, which is a hybrid of LCD and OLED.
