Vending is set to see notable value growth over the forecast period, improving on its performance during the review period, which was marred by the slump resulting from the COVID-19 crisis and the limitations it had on freedom of movement and travel and subsequently on on-the-go consumption. The revival of normal, busy lifestyles is set to drive growth and lead to further normalisation of consumption via this channel.
New vending concepts are set to emerge in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing for safe, cashless purchases. Meanwhile, the combination of the rising demand for consumer health products and the extremely limited number of chemists/pharmacies offering 24-hour opening provides an opportunity to increase the number of vending machines selling OTC medicines and other health solutions.
Frequent thefts of and from vending machines continue to pose a real threat to the channel’s growth and development. Media reported numerous cases of thefts over the late review period despite the surveillance which exists and efforts to protect the industry.
