Retail sales of wearable electronics are expected see burgeoning growth in constant value terms (2023 prices) across the forecast period, with smart wearables leading the way. Increasingly sophisticated health-monitoring features and greater affordability will be the key drivers of this trend.
Outside the realm of electronics, national car maker, Proton, in conjunction with ACO Tech, has recently released the Proton X Watch, retailing at MYR 1,499, which can be used to remotely start the engine, as well as to control the door locks, windows, horn, lights and air conditioning (amongst other features) of selected X50 cars and X70 cars. The Proton X Watch also comes with different sports modes, a blood oxygen and heart rate sensor, as well as a sedentary reminder feature.
E-commerce will continue to grow in popularity as a distribution channel for wearable electronics throughout the forecast period. Younger consumers in particular are increasingly embracing e-commerce marketplaces like Lazada and Shopee, attracted by the convenience, wide product offer and competitive pricing that they offer.
