Throughout the forecast period, the demand for footwear in Sweden is anticipated to stay consistent, though its growth may be restrained due to market saturation and discounting trends. However, the ongoing popularity of outdoor and performance footwear, an increasing focus on sustainable options, and a gradual shift from quantity to quality are expected to contribute positively to the category’s value.
Post-pandemic, in-store or physical retailing for footwear in Sweden has seen a revival, yet manufacturers are increasingly focusing on e-commerce and online channels, aiming to mitigate overordering and returns. A large share of consumers return online-purchased footwear, mainly due to size issues, with some ordering multiple sizes and returning the ill-fitting options.
Children's footwear is anticipated to remain at the forefront of the footwear category in both retail volume and value sales. Children’s footwear is not as dependent on inflation and higher unit prices; it is bought based on necessity as children grow out of shoes quickly and need replacements.
