It would appear that the majority of Croatians do understand the risks involved with the use of sleep aids, with almost two thirds of value sales in 2017 accounted for by herbal/traditional products. If consumers believe that their problem is mild or stress-related, they tend to purchase natural-based products.
The development of sleep aids does not require elaborate research, with the few main ingredients already being known and easy to obtain. Because of this, small local companies have entered the category.
While herbal/traditional remedies replace chemical-based substances with ingredients like valerian, standard products tend to contain melatonin. This is the case with the fastest growing brand in 2017, Dormirin.
The Croatian company Milsing, which was previously mostly known for marketing the Natural Wealth umbrella brand, launched its own line of products 10 years ago, called Nutripharm. The latest addition to the range is Nutripharm Melatonin Rapid.
