Analgesics is the second largest category within OTC in Greece in value terms. Nevertheless, stronger sales are limited by the low retail price of leading brand Depon, together with the widespread use of brands that do not have an OTC status for pain relief, such as Mesulid or Ponstan.

In 2019 GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer took the decision to combine their consumer health portfolios to make them more competitive on a global scale. Through this move they hope to make cost savings which they can reinvest in innovation and new product development.

Trend towards ibuprofen benefits Algofren brand

Uni-Pharma SA continued to see solid growth in current value terms in 2019 thanks to the strong performance of its Algofren brand. Algofren holds a strong lead in ibuprofen, which was one of the more dynamic categories within analgesics over the review period.
