Thanks to the general economic upturn, the penetration rate of dishwashers continuously grew over the review period in Hungary; however, sales were still far from reaching their peak, as dishwashers are to become even more-essential appliances within households.

Only kitchen space sets limits

Due to the growing number of single-person or single-parent households, and the growing supply from newly built, small-sized flats in the big cities, it might be difficult to install dishwashers into the limited kitchen space available if it is not planned in advance. Thus, despite their significantly higher average unit prices, built-in dishwashers recorded stronger volume growth than freestanding models over the review period, with many of them installed into newly built flats and kitchens.

Convenience functions trigger innovation

Although the vast majority still opt for the best value for money, there is increasing demand for premium brands of a higher quality. Cleaning efficiency, energy class and noise level are the main decision factors when choosing a new appliance.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE
Stability creates room for improvement

Indesit Co Magyarország, thanks to its brands Indesit and Hotpoint-Ariston, continued to lead within dishwashers in 2018, followed by Whirlpool Hungaria and BSH. Indesit, Hotpoint-Ariston and Whirlpool are considered to be affordably priced brands in Hungary, which may involve a compromise in terms of the durability of their models over the long term.

Premium lines becoming popular

The impact of consumers’ generally higher disposable incomes can be observed in the significantly improving performance of premium dishwasher brands, such as Miele and Bosch, both offering a wide range of products above the mid-priced segment and performing outstandingly well in product tests.

The next stage within dishwashers

By introducing an innovative convenience feature into automatic dishwashing, Electrolux has set the trend for the future. Its trademarked technology, ComfortLift, has won many product design awards, while it solves a fundamental inconvenience within automatic dishwashing.
