Demand increases

Demand for dishwashers continued to increase in Spain in 2018. Traditionally, the penetration rate of dishwashers in Spain has been lower than in other Western European countries.

Built-in dishwashers fit better in new kitchens

Another peculiarity of the Spanish market compared with other Western European countries is the low penetration of built-in models. As previously mentioned, traditional Spanish kitchens do not necessarily have space for a dishwasher; consequently, freestanding models are preferred, which can be placed wherever there is space available.

Smaller households boost sales of smaller dishwasher models

Compact and slimline dishwashers increased their shares in 2018. Growth was mainly driven by the increase in the number of single-person households or families with one child within Spanish society.

BSH Electrodomésticos España remains stable at the top of the ranking

Due to the presence of different brands, BSH Electrodomésticos España was the clear leader in dishwashers in Spain in retail volume terms in 2018, accounting for more a third of sales thanks to its wide offer. Its most popular brand is Bosch, which is positioned in the mid- and high-range, followed by Balay (mid-range) and Siemens (high-range).

Candy launches connected dishwashers

Candy Hoover Electrodomésticos registered one of the fastest growth rates in 2018. In 2017, the manufacturer signed a new distribution agreement with Esprinet Iberia, which expanded the distribution network for the two brands Candy and Hoover, as well as increasing the presence of the brands in the country.

BSH Electrodomésticos España reorganises its production facilities

BSH Electrodomésticos has the only production facilities for dishwashers in Spain, split between the two sites of Zaragoza and Montañana. Nevertheless, starting in 2017, BSH progressively reduced the dishwasher production capacity of the Zaragoza site, in order to increase the production of hobs and ovens.
