The easing of COVID-19 measures in the second half of 2021 is having a positive impact on sales of smartphones in Hungary. The fact that consumers can again meet their friends and relatives without restrictions has built a desire to upgrade their smartphones for picture-taking.
Xiaomi has focused on innovation in its product portfolio, introducing Redmi Note 9T in the mid-priced smartphone range. Crucially, Xiaomi’s smartphones are offered by the big Telco service providers where most new smartphones are sold.
In 2021, Samsung is set to achieve a stable first place in the smartphones volume sales rankings, although it is losing small share to Xiaomi. Strong promotional activities throughout the year and often recommendations to its phones by Telco operators contribute significantly to the high share of Samsung.
Despite usage of smartphones being at a high level among consumers, a significant sales increase over the forecast period is not anticipated. This is because of the high penetration rate and lengthening replacement cycle, resulting from the growing quality of the devices.
