With the Croatian travel and tourism industry poised for a huge expansion of capacity during the forecast period and beyond, 2023 saw key industry stakeholders roll out the country’s new sustainable tourism development strategy, which is seen as crucial for preserving the country’s current tourism offer and preventing of development, especially for resorts and cities on the Adriatic coast. The newly adopted Sustainable Tourism Development Strategy of the Republic of Croatia until 2030 became a reality on 1 January 2023 and it seeks to define the direction of travel and tourism development in Croatia, creating a platform for financing public tourism infrastructure and entrepreneurs.
2023 saw the introduction of new marketing guidelines for the promotion of Croatia as a travel and tourism destination and these are set to be based on the new Strategic Marketing Operational Plan for Croatian Tourism (SMOPHT), issued by the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ). SMOPHT is expected to be harmonised with Croatia’s national tourism strategy with the goal of essentially rebranding Croatia and its tourism offer in an effort to develop a better market position for the country and its travel industry on the world tourism map Kristjan Stanicic, director of HTZ, has as targeted huge changes to the marketing concept "Croatia - full of life", which has been in use since 2014.
