In the short term, the ongoing impact of high inflation and more limited disposable income, is expected to shape trends in outbound and domestic travel. In terms of outbound travel, Greeks may be keen to travel again internationally, but the decline in purchasing power will drive consumers to low-cost destinations, such as the Balkans and Eastern European countries that are more affordable.
MICE and business tourism have not yet recovered to pre-pandemic levels in Greece, but should outperform leisure travel in the upcoming period. Although the prospects for leisure travel are very optimistic too, growth in business and MICE is set to be stronger.
