New direct airline routes to Sweden and campaigns by both commercial players and the Swedish Tourist Board further boosted interest in Sweden as a tourist and business destination.

Shopping and Swedish design attract more visitors

Neighbouring countries Norway, Denmark and Finland remained the most important source markets in 2019, with many visitors attracted by the opportunity to view and purchase Swedish designer products and shopping occasions. The weak Swedish krona supported the number of arrivals, making travel and lodging costs more affordable and shopping attractive.

The healthy growth in the number of inbound tourists to Sweden in 2019 was a result of its positive image abroad, as a country with a vast clean and unspoilt nature.
