Fish grow in popularity

Fish food witnessed the most dynamic growth in other pet food in retail volume terms in 2019 thanks to growing interest in keeping fish for decorative purposes. In addition to residential homes there is some growing demand for fish in hotels and office buildings, with these creatures adding life and interest to interior spaces, which helped drive demand for fish food.

Consumers seek out higher quality products supporting value growth

While volume sales struggled at the end of the review period, the category nevertheless saw moderate current value growth thanks to growing interest in pet nutrition.

BioPet Ltd retained a strong lead in other pet food in 2018 with it offering a range of brands in bird food and small mammal/reptile food. The company has an established strong distribution network for its pet food products with it also leading dog and cat food and this ensures it receives strong shelf positioning in pet shops.

Pet Pharm continues rapid rise with range of high-quality products

Pet Pharm Ltd was the big mover in other pet food in 2018 with it closing the gap on BioPet. The company was only launched in 2013 with it being an importer and wholesaler of a range of pet care brands.

Pet shops dominate but internet retailing growing fast

Pet shops account for most sales of other pet food in Israel with these stores having the knowledge, experience and space to offer more than just dog and cat food.
