The athleisure trend and the craze for sneakers are not new in France and seemed to remain strong during the COVID-19 health crisis and its consequences. The lockdown in March-May 2020 and then the closure of gyms and sport clubs in red zones in the autumn of 2020 meant the majority of French citizens were confined to their homes, which actually supported sales of urban sneakers and the athleisure trend, at least to the extent of leading to lower losses in sales, at the expense of performance apparel and footwear and, to a lesser extent, outdoor products.
