For both women’s and men’s jeans, the competitive landscape is very fragmented, with local brands of economy and standard jeans accounting for significant value sales. In 2021, men’s jeans were led by two local players, Comodin and Arturo Calle, and in terms of value sales, standard jeans had the highest level of value sales, followed by economy and premium.
Even more so than other apparel, sustainability is coming to the fore in jeans. H&M indicates on their jeans label the percentage of recycled cotton used in the manufacturing and other players such as Arturo Calle, Crystal and Falabella highlight their use of sustainable manufacturing processes, such as reduced water and energy usage.
Jeans will register moderate constant value growth over the forecast period. Recent years have seen a shift towards more casual styles of dress in Colombian offices as workplace culture has evolved to focus less on formality and this will support volume sales.
Men’s jeans will register higher constant value growth than women’s jeans over the forecast period. Jeans are more of a staple in men’s wardrobes and they are more inclined to buy higher quality premium jeans in classic styles.
Over the long terms, there are challenges to the continued growth of jeans. The younger generation are increasingly buying athleisure, not just for sporting activities, but also to replace jeans for everyday wear.
