The success of frozen ready meals is partly attributed to the important role local production is playing in the category. Within this environment, two new players entered frozen ready meals – namely, Siwar Corp which took double-digit category brand shares in 2021, catapulting it to second brand place; and Zn (not in the data), the Nutrition and Diet Center Frozen Ready Meals factory, which is noted as the first high care food factory in Saudi Arabia, which produces goods with advanced safety targets.
E-commerce is maintaining a fast growth in Saudi Arabia, thanks to the quick and efficient mobile adaptation of consumers, and internet penetration that facilitates the rapid invasion of online platforms, all of which was boosted by the time of the pandemic. Additionally, with developments and improvements made around delivery, it has become easier than ever for consumers to purchase all manner of goods online – including frozen produce.
Local production will continue to play a major part in the success of meals and soups over the forecast period, with this area forming a significant part of the Saudi Vision2030. The Kingdom is actively encouraging Saudi investors, especially youth, to come up with new innovations and ideas and the government is ready to support in financing these concepts to completion.

Meals and Soups
This is the aggregation of ready meals, pizza, food kits, prepared salads, and soup. Includes: These are products that have had recipe 'skills' added to them by the manufacturer, resulting in a high degree of readiness, completion and convenience. Food kits is an exception where typically the extent of preparation is much shorter than other meal products; includes meal kits where consumers are to put together pre-portioned ingredients and cook with the guidance of recipe cards. Ready meals are generally accepted to be complete meals that require few or no extra ingredients. However, in the case of shelf stable ready meals, the term also encompasses meal 'centres’; for food kits, they do require a degree of cooking and preparation. As such, some meals may require cooking (ready-to-cook); others may simply need reheating, prior to serving (ready-to-eat). Excludes: Any products sold unpackaged and/or by weight, including food sold from a retail deli counter.
