Nonetheless, it needs to be borne in mind that sales are rising from a very low base as very few local people are aware of these products or the benefits they potentially offer in terms of convenience and time saving.
As demand for ready meals expands in Uzbekistan during the forecast period, the local players that have so far found fertile ground for developing sales in the category are likely to maintain a huge advantage over the international brands that would be more familiar to consumers living in Europe and North America, for instance. The first point to mention here is that sales of ready meals are dominated by frozen versions of local specialties and this means that local players with a strong understanding of the wants and needs of local consumers and familiarity with local cuisine will have a major advantage over their international rivals.
No major breakthrough is expected to be seen in soup during the forecast period and sales are expected to remain low and confined to dry soup only. As mentioned above, the concept of packaged soup is unfamiliar to the vast majority of people in Uzbekistan and as a result few consumers are likely to suddenly become very interested in dry soup, let alone other types of packaged soup.

This is the aggregation of ready meals, pizza, food kits, prepared salads, and soup. Includes: These are products that have had recipe 'skills' added to them by the manufacturer, resulting in a high degree of readiness, completion and convenience. Food kits is an exception where typically the extent of preparation is much shorter than other meal products; includes meal kits where consumers are to put together pre-portioned ingredients and cook with the guidance of recipe cards. Ready meals are generally accepted to be complete meals that require few or no extra ingredients. However, in the case of shelf stable ready meals, the term also encompasses meal 'centres’; for food kits, they do require a degree of cooking and preparation. As such, some meals may require cooking (ready-to-cook); others may simply need reheating, prior to serving (ready-to-eat). Excludes: Any products sold unpackaged and/or by weight, including food sold from a retail deli counter.
