At this point in the development of plant-based dairy in Denmark, it is apparent that there are numerous sound reasons for consumers to make the shift away from bovine dairy products and towards plant-based dairy. With the health and wellness trend set to remain highly influential across dairy products and alternatives throughout the forecast period, the lower saturated fat and cholesterol levels of plant-based dairy, as well as the fact that all of these products are naturally free from lactose, should prove instrumental in encouraging huge numbers of consumers to make the switch to plant-based dairy.
The forecast period is expected to see sales of plant-based cheese increase very strongly, with double-digit CAGRs expected in both retail volume and value terms. Plant-based cheese is seen as having particularly strong growth potential due to currently low levels of saturation and potentially very high demand as the interest of consumers expands to cover a wider variety of plant-based dairy categories.
While sales of soy drinks are expected to continue declining in Denmark over the forecast period, other plant-based milk is slated for a very strong performance as Danish consumers become accustomed to consuming a wider range of plant-based milks. Consumer interest in soy drinks, a category which has been present in Denmark for many years, is waning in favour of a diverse range of plant-based milks, including almond, oat, coconut and rice.
