Other plant-based milk is expected to see foodservice volume sales increase strongly throughout the forecast period. The launch of several new oat-based products in Argentina from the latter half of 2022 onwards looks set to be a major driver of growth, as oat milk has proven to be a hugely popular complement to coffee in many countries in recent years.
While the outlook for other plant-based milk over the forecast period is bright on the whole, import barriers could hamper the development of the category. Even though many brands are manufactured and/or packaged in Argentina, local producers are heavily reliant on imported raw materials such as almonds from the US or Spain, coconuts from the Philippines etc.
Plant-based yoghurt and plant-based cheese are expected to remain negligible categories in Argentina over the forecast period. While these product types are sold in the country – Felices las Vacas offers plant-based cheese, for example – they are not widely available, and mainly targeted at people with food allergies or other special dietary requirements.
