The COVID-19 crisis is expected to have very little impact on dermatologicals in Macedonia in 2020 overall. Although current value sales are predicted to rise slightly, this will likely have nothing to do with the pandemic, and more with an ongoing pattern that is mirrored over the review period.
In 2020, dermatologicals continue to be equally split between domestic and international companies. Amongst the leading players, the top three are domestic, with their positions largely being the result of their strength in the most robust product areas through their standard and economy brands.
Second leading domestic company Alkaloid announced in March 2020 that it will donate EUR200,000 to the local Ministry of Health in order to support the fight against COVID-19. The company has also lowered the prices of more than 150 of its products in a bid to help those who have been financially impaired by the pandemic.
As COVID-19 restrictions continue easing over the forecast period, consumers will once again start returning to their fast-paced lifestyles. Consequently, there will be an increase in fast food consumption and establishments as consumers once again have little time to prepare healthy meals.
Over the forecast period the social stigma surrounding conditions such as haemorrhoids, fungal and yeast infections and lice infestations is expected to continue to fade. Which will further boost the growth of these products.
Over the forecast period, dermatologicals is set to see a similar current value performance to that seen in the review period, despite increasing saturation and the static population. The boundary between dermatologicals in consumer health and medicated skin care in beauty and personal care is becoming increasingly blurred.
