E-commerce is expected to continue developing in Slovakia thanks to the growing number of key retailers that are offering coffee through their e-commerce shops. For example, Fresh Potraviny launched its online ordering system in 2021 in the Kosice region, and it plans to extend this to nearby regions.
Despite the gloomy economic landscape, premiumisation is expected to drive product innovation over the forecast period, leading to speciality products, including appliances, becoming much more visible. Fresh coffee beans and capsules that recreate the on-trade coffee experience in terms of quality will continue to gather momentum.
Although private label ranges gained ground in 2022 and are expected to continue to benefit from weaker purchasing power and innovation in premium-positioned products in 2023, brands are expected to compete more aggressively through price discounts and promotional activities, which is likely to constrain the growth of private label to some extent. Despite the current economic climate, Slovakians remain loyal to their favourite coffee brands, especially when these are discounted, which presents an ongoing challenge for companies offering unbranded, cheaper alternatives.
