In terms of current value growth, performance was similar to 2019. However, performance was not uniform across product areas.
Spring remained the outright leader throughout review period and in 2020, despite seeing a continuous drop in value share. PALC Chemical took second place and continued to gain share with its Palc brand.
The highest growth rate is forecast for furniture polish, which continues to benefit from the dusty conditions in Algerian’s increasingly overcrowded cities. The Algerian government’s housing plan will lead to a growing number of houses in urban areas, prompting consumers to buy and use furniture polish more regularly as they combat the damage done by high dust levels.
Current value growth of polishes over the forecast period is expected to be on a par with the review period. However, part of this growth will be driven by inflation, and volume growth is expected to be lower as consumers become more price sensitive, due to lower disposable incomes.
Though volume growth will be slower, due to increasing price sensitivity, it will still be healthy. As Algerian cities become increasingly crowded and polluted, producing rising dust levels, sales of polishes will continue to grow.
Volume sales of polishes are expected to slow down over the forecast period. Weak value growth of floor polish, metal polish and shoe polish is partially due to limited consumer interest in such products.
