Home insecticides performed badly in 2020, with both volume and current value sales declining. In fact, it was the worst performing product among home care in 2020.
Offer of home insecticides remained very limited in Bosnia-Herzegovina, with only three players having notable value shares. The lack of players is the result of the area not being very profitable, with new players not incentivised to release new products.
Spray/aerosol insecticides remained the largest area of overall insecticides in 2020. However, electric insecticides are perceived to be much more effective, more convenient and less harmful, and are growing in value sales, and it is not surprising that this area recorded the fastest growth in 2020.
While current value growth is expected to grow slightly over the forecast period, it is expected that volume sales will continue to decline. The biggest product area within home insecticides, that is spray/aerosol insecticides, will drive this decline, as consumers increasingly shun the product due to its negative effect on the environment.
Concern for the environment and growing awareness of the toxicity of the products and the potential damage to people’s health will shape the performance of home insecticides over the long term. COVID-19 has further focused consumers’ attention on the harmful effect of home insecticides and this will continue over the forecast period.
Electric insecticides is expected to be the only product within home insecticides that will register higher volume sales over the entire forecast period. The reason for this is that manufacturers are focusing their attention on these products in terms of marketing and new product launches, but more importantly the main driver of volume growth will be that consumers perceive these products as being more effective and also greener.
