There was a large migration of people from Eastern Europe to the United Arab Emirates in the second half of 2022, due to the war in Ukraine. As many people were focused on building a life in the country, finding accommodation and looking for a job, this did not translate into retail volume growth in 2022.
The end of the pandemic, Dubai Expo, the inflow of Eastern Europeans, and a major surge in regional and global tourism to the United Arab Emirates have been having a favourable impact on the sales of consumer foodservice outlets. Also as a result of the services provided by third-party food delivery apps such as Talabat and Deliveroo, it is anticipated that foodservice volume sales of cheese will continue to expand in the short and medium term, and sales will return to the pre-pandemic level in the middle of the forecast period.
Consumers today have a greater emphasis on health and wellness, and as a result, they are making a conscious effort to consume fewer dairy products, as overconsumption of such products is seen as bad for health. Over the forecast period, more players are therefore anticipated to offer healthier variants of cheese, and cheese-snack mix options geared towards children.
