The AFH tissue and hygiene offer is stronger in urban areas than rural areas in terms of both product quality and the variety of brand choice. Despite the increase in average unit prices across all categories, non-retail buyers have continued to pay attention to material.
Tourism demand for AFH tissue and hygiene was growing significantly in Vietnam immediately prior to the outbreak of COVID-19, to the further benefit of the horeca channel. Moreover, higher incomes and busier lifestyles in large cities continued to stimulate greater frequency of dining out amongst Vietnamese consumers.
Away-from-home tissue is expected to perform well over the forecast period across all categories. The Vietnamese Government is looking to launch policies to support tourism and to attract domestic and international travel to aid in the recovery of the sector.
According to the government census in 2019, 7.71% of people in Vietnam are older than 65 years of age.
In rural areas, most AFH tissue and hygiene products are local brands or un-named products with limitations in terms of their production capacity. Most local brands are more focused on low prices and cost saving than on quality, with customers preferring to buy low-priced products from small manufacturers or to use toilet paper for multiple purposes.
