In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, there was significant demand for bath and shower products with benefits such as antibacterial properties. Hand sanitisers were also hugely in demand (see below).
Colgate-Palmolive continued to lead in 2021 and grew its share thanks to the success of its Palmolive brand. In addition to the globally-recognised and respected brand, the player has a longstanding presence and good reputation in Slovenia, with a large portfolio of popular products and a range of prices.
While most products within beauty and personal care were negatively impacted by the pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns, one product that registered a boom from COVID-19 was hand sanitisers. However, it looks like the boom has ended, with current value and volume sales falling steeply in 2021.
Bath and shower will register muted constant value growth over the forecast period and marginal volume growth. Inflation could also become an issue over the forecast period, as global factors such as rising energy prices and continuing supply constraints feed into higher retail prices.
Consumers will increasingly be environmentally and healthy conscious and will check labels and ingredients, with natural and simple ingredients holding more sway. For instance, fragrance-free options will gain ground over scented ones and labels such as “hypoallergenic" and “Ph balanced” will also gain ground.
Body powders will continue to register a decline, with both constant value and volume sales falling over the forecast period. Body creams and lotions will be the preferred options, as they are considered easier to use and more absorbent.
