With inflationary pressures set to remain high in Spain, at least during the early part of the forecast period, consumers are expected to curb their expenditure on non-essentials. While this is unlikely to have a significant negative effect on demand for bath and shower (as many products in this category are regarded as essential by most consumers), this could lead a growing number of consumers to substitute brands for cheaper, private label offerings, as well as to shift to purchasing products in larger, value-for-money formats.
As Spain continues to feel the impact of the climate crisis, with ever-hotter average summer temperatures, this will translate into consumers taking more showers than previously, which will support the performance of body washes/shower gels. However, sustained droughts are likely to result in water restriction policies, (as was the case in 2022), which will limit the growth of shower gel, bath additives and intimate washes.
In general, sustainability will play a much more important role in bath and shower during the forecast period, particularly for younger consumers. This demographic cohort will increasingly favour brands perceived as sustainable, in terms of both their ingredients and their packaging.
