International companies Colgate-Palmolive and Unilever Del Uruguay continued to lead bath and shower value sales. Both companies offer a wide variety of bath and shower products that consumers recognise.
During the review period, Uruguayan consumers were increasingly attracted to natural products and paid more attention to ingredients in products. This was further accelerated by COVID-19, as with consumers increasingly focused on their healthy, they were also more aware of what ingredients went into the products they use skin.
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to higher standards of hygiene. Regular hand washing will become a more ingrained habit due to the pandemic and will continue for the rest of the forecast period.
E-commerce gained value share in 2020, as consumers tried to avoid mixing with people in order to prevent infection and as a result turned to online sales. Chains such as supermarket chains, Tienda Inglesa and Disco, and pharmacy chain, Farmashop, benefitted from this.
Liquid soap outperformed bar soap in 2020, while bar soap registered lower current value growth. Liquid soap was perceived as convenient in saving time, as public health authorities encourage frequent hand washing due to COVID-19.
