While most products within beauty and personal care were negatively impacted by the pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns, one product that registered a boom from COVID-19 was hand sanitisers. However, it looks like the boom is already over, with value sales only increasing marginally and volume sales down.
Bath and shower will register muted constant value and volume growth over the forecast period. The rate of volume growth is set to slow due to economic difficulties as a result of the pandemic and rising inflation.
Body wash/shower gel is expected to see the fastest growth in the forecast period, sustained by its low base, new product innovation and demand amongst young urban dwellers with busy lifestyles. The product, which was performing well before the pandemic, has not yet reached maturity and is likely to enjoy increasing popularity amongst Algerian consumers.
During the review period, consumers were increasingly attracted to natural products and paid more attention to ingredients in products. This was further accelerated by COVID-19, as with consumers increasingly focused on their healthy, they were also more aware of what ingredients went into the products they use on their skin.
