Bleach offers relatively low margins for manufacturers, so they do not have the opportunity to invest in expensive marketing and promotional activities aimed at increasing sales. As such, competition remains based on price and the best performers will be local manufacturers such as the aforementioned KazBytKhim TOO, along with further, generic, unbranded “others”.
Lower-income consumers in more rural areas will drive sales in bleach, particularly so in regions where consumers are the most price-sensitive and do not pay attention to the safety of the product. The ongoing time of economic uncertainty will further go to support this.
On a longer-term basis, it is possible that Kazakhstan will catch up with some of the global friends which are being slow to take shape in the country. Environmental issues and harmful effects to health from toxic chemicals are of importance, and it is inevitable that this will eventually start to shape behaviours in Kazakhstan – notably in urban areas.
