Malt-based hot drinks is the only category which is not expected to decline over the period, as these hot drinks have a somewhat healthier image than other drinks in the category.
Wander is set to remain the leading player in other hot drinks over the forecast period due to the strong presence of its Ovomaltine and Caotina brands, which are both well established and trusted in Switzerland. For many Swiss consumers, Ovomaltine will likely remain synonymous with malt-based hot drinks, which are consumed as a healthier alternative to coffee.
Health and wellness had already had a negative impact on consumption of other hot drinks for many years prior to the COVID-19 pandemic as consumers became more aware of the potential dangers of high levels of sugar consumption. Some manufacturers had taken steps to address these concerns by launching lower-sugar versions of their well-known other hot drinks.
