Sugar content penalising growth

Other hot drinks has been affected by changing consumer needs, with consumers increasingly aware of the negative impact of sugar on their health, and avoiding products with high content of added sugar. This trend, common throughout the non-alcoholic drinks market, is bringing volume sales down, at the same time that producers are struggling to reinvent their products.

Reinvention of tradition

With an ageing population and younger consumers more willing to experiment and reinvent traditional products in their daily life, an opportunity appears to have emerged for other hot drinks. Particularly focused on traditional categories such as malt-based hot drinks or other plant-based hot drinks, the potential resides in the consumers’ willingness to rescue “heritage products” and rediscover their flavours and characteristics, and in reinventing the way of drinking it, a phenomenon that is starting to be seen in coffee.
