As they successfully attempt to position themselves as a midpoint between sweet, sugary drinks, such as carbonates and juice, and the purity and health of water, producers of flavoured bottled water are increasingly becoming a threat, especially for nectars (25-99% juice), which is traditionally perceived as unhealthy because of its high sugar content. However, after enjoying some success and recovering from the hit during the pandemic, flavoured bottled water remains a highly consolidated competitive landscape, where smaller brands struggle to gain share from the dominant leaders, Coca-Cola (Aquarius and Benedictino), and Aguas CCU - Nestlé Chile SA (Cachantun).
Water purifiers are a relatively new product in Chilean households, but they are becoming increasingly popular. Although the initial cost and maintenance of water purifiers is considered prohibitive for many local consumers, there are many cheaper options, such as filters, available.
During the past decade, Chile has been experiencing relentless droughts, which have depleted many basins and other sources of water. Over the years, authorities have warned the population that there was a need to ration water in some areas in the centre and the north of the country, with some small communities completely running out of drinkable water sources.

Bottled Water
This category is the aggregation of still bottled water (spring, mineral & purified), carbonated bottled water (spring, mineral & purified), flavoured bottled water and functional bottled water. Bulk bottled water is split out separately. It is defined as packaged drinking water – purified, spring or mineral – that is packaged in a container of 8 litres or larger. The bulk bottled water data types apply to Still Bottled Water and Carbonated Bottled Water but do not apply to functional or flavoured bottled water. Bulk water is classified according to the new Bulk retail volume and Bulk retail value data type regardless of channel of sale: bulk water sold via retail locations and bulk water delivered direct to a consumer’s home is included. Bulk water sold to institutions (offices, schools etc.) remains excluded.
