Having declined during 2020, off-trade volume sales of bottled water rebounded strongly during 2021. Leader Oskar Morshynsky ZMV TOV launched a number of new products under its Morshynska brand and increased its marketing support.
Demand for functional bottled water remains very limited in Ukraine, but 2021 saw a significant widening of the product offer: Morshynska launched AntiOXIWATER Selenium+Iodine, which contains selenium, chromium and zinc, microelements and antioxidants for health and beauty, in addition to containing neither sugar nor additives; Bon Boisson Vitamin Water is reduced sugar and contains echinacea extract, as well as vitamins C and B; Buvette Vitamin Water contains herbal extracts, vitamins, fruit juices and aloe vera. Imported brand Oshee vitamin water was also launched during the year.
Metal cans are an emerging packaging type in bottled water. This format tends to appeal to younger consumers in particular.
The rate of growth in off-trade volume sales of bottled water is set to slow over the course of the forecast period but will remain robust. The burgeoning health and wellness trend will continue to support growth, but per capita consumption will remain relatively low.
Sustainable and recyclable packaging is set to proliferate in bottled water. Younger consumers in particularly are becoming more interested in environmental issues, and this is having a growing impact on their consumption choices.
Flavoured bottled water is set to grow in popularity during the forecast period, as local consumers seek healthier alternatives to other types of soft drinks, particularly carbonates, but with more flavour than regular bottled water. This growth will be facilitated by a widening product offer.

Bulk bottled water is split out separately. It is defined as packaged drinking water – purified, spring or mineral – that is packaged in a container of 8 litres or larger. The bulk bottled water data types apply to Still Bottled Water and Carbonated Bottled Water but do not apply to functional or flavoured bottled water. Bulk water is classified according to the new Bulk retail volume and Bulk retail value data type regardless of channel of sale: bulk water sold via retail locations and bulk water delivered direct to a consumer’s home is included. Bulk water sold to institutions (offices, schools etc.) remains excluded.
