Functional bottled water is expected to record the fastest volume and value growth over the forecast period with the growing number of Estonians regularly engaging in sports and the strengthening health and wellness trend in the country, which was accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The strong demand for functional foods to prevent various diseases, increase vitality, and improve appearance (condition of skin, hair and nails) will contribute to the future success of functional bottled water in Estonia.
Still natural mineral bottled water will demonstrate the second-fastest volume and value growth over the forecast period due to the deterioration of the environment and the quality of water from the central water supply. Estonians leading increasingly healthy lifestyles and engaging in sporting events and activities will also help boost the performance of still natural mineral bottled water in the years ahead.
Still spring bottled water, meanwhile, is set to register the strongest volume growth in foodservice over the course of the forecast period. Growth of this type of water will be driven by Estonians’ appreciation of its high natural vitamin and mineral content, as well as the fact that it is perceived to be more sophisticated and something to be enjoyed in an on-trade establishment.

Bottled Water
This category is the aggregation of still bottled water (spring, mineral & purified), carbonated bottled water (spring, mineral & purified), flavoured bottled water and functional bottled water. Bulk bottled water is split out separately. It is defined as packaged drinking water – purified, spring or mineral – that is packaged in a container of 8 litres or larger. The bulk bottled water data types apply to Still Bottled Water and Carbonated Bottled Water but do not apply to functional or flavoured bottled water. Bulk water is classified according to the new Bulk retail volume and Bulk retail value data type regardless of channel of sale: bulk water sold via retail locations and bulk water delivered direct to a consumer’s home is included. Bulk water sold to institutions (offices, schools etc.) remains excluded.
